Integrated clinical skills
Definition: combines a series of discrete tasks that are conducted simultaneously or in sequence to form a complex clinical task
Suitable for the following competencies: basic, advanced and specialized procedural clinical skills training.
Examples of topics suitable for this format include:
- Endotracheal intubation and simultaneous cervical spine immobilisation
- Central venous cannulation integrating technique with patient positioning, maintenance of aseptic conditions and or ultrasound guidance.
Format: A workshop format is used where one to two instructors facilitate a group of up to six participants who have hands-on access to a technology such as task trainer or VR system.
How its run: As with procedural skills training, facilitators follow a structure consisting of: Introduction, Goal setting, Demonstration, Practice, Feedback, Questions and discussion, Close. Participants may practice as individuals or in a team configuration. The task may be contextualized and involve basic scenarios or role play and debriefs.
